Emo Gene “Jean” Hawker Finley

Emo Gene “Jean” Hawker Finley, 102, born August 20, 1913, in Jackson County, passed away peacefully October 13, 2015, at Lanfair Center, Lancaster, Ohio.

Jean taught in the Lancaster School System for 47 years. She started teaching 8th grade English and 7th grade History at South School, then moved to North School, and finished her years at Thomas Ewing Junior High. She always referenced her students as if they were “her kids”.

Jean is survived by her nieces and nephews, Chris Clark Tabb of Honey Brook, PA, Troyla Belhorn Berry of Lancaster, OH, John (Wilda) Hawker of Port Clinton, OH, Dr. Greg (Carol) Hawker of Jackson, Dr. Thomas (Dr. Linda) Belhorn of Chapel Hill, NC, and Susanne Hawker (Jim) Walke of Jackson; many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Georganne Hawker.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Major Raymond L. Finley; sisters, Carolyn Clark, husband Jack and Anne Belhorn, husband Herb; and brothers, John Cecil Hawker and Floyd Hawker.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at Lanfair Center, Home Helpers, and Fairhope Hospice for the support they have provided Jean over the last 12 years of her life.

Interment will be held at a later date in Vega Cemetery, Jackson County, Ohio. Caring Cremation has taken place with the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home of Lancaster.
