Carl R. Dobbins

Carl R. Dobbins, age 85, died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at his home. He was born October 26, 1929 in Jackson and was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Marie Dobbins, and also his younger brother, Paul R. Dobbins in 2010.

Carl (“Dobbie”) was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. He then spent 5-½ years in the U.S. Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. Once returning to Jackson, he began his career at the Uranium Enrichment Plant in Piketon and retired from there in 1994.

Carl was very active after retirement. He served on Jackson City Council for 18 years and the Lillian Jones Museum Board of Directors for several years. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a 64-year member of Jackson Elks Lodge, where he was the current Secretary. Over his years of membership in the Elks he was recognized and acknowledged for his community service work, especially with the youth. In 1989 he was named Ohio Elk of the Year and in 2014 he entered the Ohio Elks Hall of Fame.

He also had a love and passion for local sports teams and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play basketball, golf and soccer.

Surviving Carl (“Dobbie”) are his wife of 59 years, Ann; four grown children: Dan (Karen) Dobbins, Karla (Dan) Morrow, Mary (Rod) Bachtel, and Tim (Beth) Dobbins, all of Jackson; seven grandchildren: Max (Jo) Morrow, Mitchell, Matthew, Morgan, and Katie Dobbins, and Nick and John Bachtel; and one great-grandson, Kiptyn Morrow.

He will be sadly missed by many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. with an Elks service at 7 p.m. and a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Tom Gardner and Father Joseph John Trapp II officiating. Burial will follow at Mt.
