Cheryl A. Cox

Cheryl A. Cox, age 59, of Hamden, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at her home. She was born November 13, 1955 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Paul J. Jewell, Sr. and Viola Ann Delaney Jewell.

Cheryl was a 1974 graduate of Vinton County High School and was a MPO in the Army National Guard. She was a former employee of Banquet Foods and a former shelter manager for Jackson County and Athens County American Red Cross. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellston, where she was a deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 371, where she served as their Americanism Chairman; the American Legion Post 371 Ladies Auxiliary; past District President for the Department of Ohio American Legion Auxiliary, of which she served 3 terms; former Commander of the 40 et 8; lifetime member of the D.A.V. Jackson County Chapter 45; member of the Wellston Chase Chapter #162 Order of the Eastern Star; member of the Wellston Rotary Club, for which she enjoyed participating in the annual Rotary Show; and a former member of the Citizens Emergency Response Team. In years past, Cheryl enjoyed being a D.J. and singing karaoke.

She is survived by her children, Michelle Bethel of Paris, Kentucky and Carl Bethel IV (Amy) of Hamden; step-children, Billy Jo Cox, Jr. of Hamilton, Jenny Springer of Chillicothe and Jason Cox of Germantown; sister, Linda Kay Baughman of Cincinnati; brother, Paul James Jewell, Jr. of Wellston, as well as 4 granddaughters and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Bethel III in 1979; second husband, Billy Joe Cox, Sr. in 2015 and her sister Carol Fay Newman.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, with an Eastern Star service and honors by the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston starting at 5:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be in the Hamden Cemetery.
