Rita Elizabeth (Shaffer) Jones passed away at Grant Medical Center on May 13, 2015 at the age of 70. Family and close friends will have visitation at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, 202 Maple Avenue, Oak Hill, Ohio on Saturday, May 16th from 12 o’clock noon to 1 p.m. A graveside funeral service will be held at C.M. Cemetery in Oak Hill with Stan Howard officiating with burial to follow.
Rita Elizabeth (Shaffer) Jones was born in Oak Hill, Ohio to Lowell and Margaret Shaffer in 1945. She attended Oak Hill High School and went on to become a professional cosmetologist after graduation; she also enjoyed a long career as a local florist. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family and her community, and served them all faithfully during her lifetime. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family.
Rita is preceded in death by her father, Lowell Shaffer; mother, Margaret Lloyd Shaffer; and brother, Marvin Shaffer (Janet Shaffer and Alana Williams); and her beloved husband, Robert Wendell “Jughead” Jones.
Rita is lovingly remembered by her sons, Zane Lee Jones (April Radune Jones and Jantzen Kennedy Jones) and Chad Stewart Jones (Kelly Flowers, Griffin and Granger Flowers).
A heartfelt thank you to Rita’s caregivers, nursing staff, and chaplains at Grant Medical Center ICU/CCU Unit for their special kindness. Their compassion and skill enhanced Rita’s final days and our time with her.
