Virginia E. Merrill

Virginia E. Merrill, age 98, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Holzer Medical Center ER in Jackson, Ohio. She was born October 28, 1916 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Claude B. Reed and Emma Tucker Reed.

Virginia was a housewife and loving mother. She was a former member of the Hope United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 371 Ladies Auxiliary, and in years past, was a Boy Scout den mother. She was an avid Wellston Golden Rockets and Ohio State Buckeyes fan.

Virginia enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley, Don Ho and Bill Anderson. She even had a scarf belonging to Elvis Presley from one of his concerts.

Virginia is survived by four children, Wilma Peoples of Wellston, Roger (Lori) Merrill of Springfield, Sandra White of Wellston and Jeff (Jackie) Merrill of Wellston; daughters-in-law, Judy Merrill of Wellston and Linda Merrill of Dayton, as well as 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest H. Merrill in 1993; three sons, infant, Ernest Paul Merrill, Francis “Frank” Merrill and Eldon Merrill; sisters, Bessie Dieker, Evelyn Reed, Violet Jayjohn, Ruth Watters, Margie Callahan and Edith Womeldorf; and brothers, Arthur Reed, Woodrow Reed and Ray Reed.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with John Pelletier, CLP officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
