Colton Lane Burus

Colton Lane Burus, age 17, Harrison County, died Saturday, December 13, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Harrison County. He was born in Georgetown, KY, October 22, 1997 to Patrick Burus and Brendi Haynes Burus.

He was a Harrison County JROTC Flight Commander, Color Guard Commander and Recruitment Commander, honors course student, two time state level athlete in 110 meter hurdles in track, a member of the Harrison County Beta Club and Harrison County Varsity Soccer Team.

Colton had attended the Jackson City Schools from 2008 until 2012, where he played football and ran track. He was preceded in death by his paternal great grandfather, Claude Simpson and a maternal great grandmother, Virginia Hagen.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Charles E. Burus, Jr. of Sadieville, KY and Ruby C. (Dave) Guerrant of Largo, FL; maternal grandparents, William E. “Bill” and Beverly Haynes of Jackson, OH; a paternal great grandmother, Clarisel Simpson of Nicholasville, KY; an aunt, Kelly McDaniel of Lexington, KY; an uncle, Brook (Shannon) Haynes of Versailles, KY; six cousins, Madison Joest, Kennedy Haynes, Riley Renfrow, Natasha McDaniel, Hannah McDaniel and Abby McDaniel; father’s girlfriend, Lesa Ulm and all his special friends with the Harrison County JROTC, Beta Club, track team, soccer team and chorus. Colton attended Jackson City Schools from 2008-2012.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana, Kentucky. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio with visitation at 1 p.m.
