Lois F. Dunn

Lois F. Dunn, age 83, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 28 at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Glouster, Ohio and lived in Jackson since 2011. Lois graduated from Glouster High School and later earned a Teaching Certificate from Ohio University. She met her husband of 60 years, Eugene Dunn, while attending OU.

Lois, Gene, and their family lived in Batavia, Ohio, San Jose, California, and Cincinnati, Ohio, before retiring to Jekyll Island, Georgia in 1987. Lois worked as a substitute teacher in the Cincinnati area during the 1960s and Gene worked as a metallurgical engineer for General Electric for 35 years. Lois was a talented artist, painter, and potter who won awards for her artwork in Georgia, where she was a member of the Jekyll Island Arts Association. Lois and Gene were also devout Methodists, very active in the church communities where they lived. (She attended Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson since 2011.) For recreation, Lois was a voracious reader and, with Gene, they enjoyed traveling the world and playing bridge and golf. Most of all, Lois was a caring and gentle soul with a great sense of humor, beloved by everyone she knew.

Lois was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by four children: Steve Dunn (and wife Carol) of Champaign, Illinois; Sibbie Chamberlain (husband Dave) of Jackson, Ohio; Dan Dunn of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Andy Dunn (fiance’ Kathleen Kaczor) of Lake Oswego, Oregon. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Keegan Chamberlain (wife Dara) of Hilliard, Ohio; Casey Chamberlain (wife Kristin) of Chillicothe, Ohio; and Kyle and Brian Dunn of Champaign, Illinois. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Adelyn, Alexis, Kael, and Kowynn Chamberlain, of Hilliard, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Dunn. She was also preceded in death by her sister Dora Parker, brother Foster Harry, mother Sybil Kurtzman, father Wilbur Harry, and stepfather Ed Kurtzman.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home, 135 Broadway Street in Jackson, Ohio.
