Harry Erwin

Harry A. Erwin, age 91, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born November 7, 1922 in Kittanning, Pennsylvania to the late Harry L. and Elsie (Scott) Erwin.

He and his late wife, Grace B. Erwin came to Jackson, November of 1960 and purchased the Culligan Water Conditioning business. Before coming to Jackson, he was associated with Culligan Soft Water in Wellsville, New York. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the 86th Mountain Infantry in both the Service Company and F Company, having served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy.

He was a member of the Jackson Lions Club with a 60-year perfect attendance award. He was past president, and had received the Melvin Jones award, the highest award granted. He was also a member of the 10th Mountain Association and past president of the Ohio Culligan Dealers Association, member of the Ohio Water Conditioning Association, Association of the Ohio Culligan Dealers, and Culligan USA. He was also a member of Jackson Christian Church.

He is survived by two sons, Dennis L. Erwin of Centennial, Colorado and Matt D. McCarthy of Coalton, Ohio; one daughter, Connie (David) Staker; two brothers, Karl Erwin and William Erwin; and one sister, Elizabeth Perry, all of New York State; several grandchildren, including Matthew and Paul McCarthy of Coalton, Ohio and Christina Fraley of Wellston, Ohio; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of over 50 years.

A funeral service will be held at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson, Ohio on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Downton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. immediately prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 451, Chillicothe, OH 45601.
