Roy Howard Gilliland

Roy Howard Gilliland, age 80, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 after an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born September 8, 1933 to the late Floyd and Edna (Milar) Gilliland.

He graduated from Glenwood High School in New Boston, Ohio in 1952. After graduation he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter and a member of Vega United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Gerry (Bonnie) Gilliland of Thurman, Ohio, Charles (Mary) Gilliland of Waterford, Michigan; two daughters, Karen Gilliland of Waverly, Ohio, and Ruth (Paul) Kistler of Camarillo, California; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mary Ann (Schwable) Gilliland; and three sisters, Ada Allen, Garnet Waddell, and Roberta Garrett.

A funeral will be held at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson, Ohio on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Rozewicz officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will follow at Vega Cemetery in Thurman, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Vega United Methodist Church, Relay for Life Team, P.O. Box 2000, Thurman, Ohio 45685.
