Gary Kent Jones

Gary Kent Jones, 75, died Thursday, October 10, 2013, at his home In Hamden, Ohio. Gary was born September 19, 1938, in Wellston, Ohio, to the late Gerald and Lucille Thorp Jones. He was a member of Puritan Freewill Baptist Church, a 1958 graduate of Wellston High School, a proud member of the Rockets’ 1957 State Championship Football team, and served his country from 1959 – 1963 as a United States Marine.

Gary married Sharon Kay Bowden on February 5, 1966, and fathered two daughters, Tracy and Tonya. A maintenance mechanic, he was employed by McNally Pittsburg (1963-1975) and USEC- Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (1975-2003).

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Hamden; two daughters, Tracy (and Jason) Winters of Gallipolis, and Tonya (and Gary) Browning of Londonderry; three sisters, Betty (Charlie) Mayhew of Circleville, Joyce (Dick) Figlestahler of Jackson, and Jane (and Mike) McManis of Wellston; five grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Austin, Sierra, and Kayla; and three step-grandchildren, Amanda, Phillip, and Jennifer.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Jones.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston with Pastor Jamie Fortner officiating. Burial and military graveside services will follow in the Hamden Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
