Dorothy (Harper) Dixon

Dorothy (Harper) Dixon passed away quietly Thursday, October 3, 2013 at her home after a lengthy illness on her 92nd birthday.

Dorothy was born October 3, 1921 to Eva (Mercer) and Stanley Harper. She was welcomed home by two sisters, Clara and Anna. The girls grew up on the Harper Dairy Farm where they helped their parents, and although they grew up during the Great Depression, lived an ideal life filled with love, laughter, and genuine happiness.

Dorothy married Heber Dixon on April 9, 1941 in Jackson, Ohio. Together they raised four children, Thomas, Jane, Steven, and Patricia. She was a wonderful supporting mother, best friend, and excellent wife. Her family was her treasure.

Dorothy was a member of the Jackson Baptist Church until her marriage to Heber, and then became an active member of the Jackson Christian Church. She was also a member of the Cass Road Baptist Church in Maumee, Ohio until her return to Jackson in 2002.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane (David) Leach and Patricia Ann Dixon of Jackson, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Sherry Dixon from Tampa, Florida; as well as her sister, Anna Roberts of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, Michael Dixon, Christopher (Bridget) Dixon, of Tampa, Florida, Lisa (Anthony) McGurk of Monclova, Ohio, Brittany, Darrah, and David Paul Leach of Jackson, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Brenden and Lauren McGurk of Monclova, Ohio, and Katie Elizabeth and Ryan Dixon of Tampa, Florida; and she was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by parents, Stanley and Eva; her husband of 53 years, Heber; as well as two sons, Thomas Michael and Steven Todd; her oldest sister, Clara White.

The family wishes to thank Holzer Hospice for their exceptional care during her illness. Patti would like to make a special note of thanks to Nichole Veloz, Holly Helmic, Martha Hamblin, and Connie Gibeaut for their love and support of her and her mother during this time.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson, Ohio. Friends may call Sunday, October 6, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A service will be held immediately after at 2 p.m. with John Pelletier CLP officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
