William A. Fyffe

William A. Fyffe, 73, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at his home. The son of the late Hile and Celia Fannin Fyffe, Bill was born July 14, 1939, at Louisa, Kentucky. He was a 1957 graduate of Jackson High School and received his B.A. from Central Missouri College in 1962. Bill was an educator with a total of 41 years experience; having taught at Washington Court House, Maple Heights and Wellston. In addition to his teaching duties, he enjoyed coaching football and track. For five years, he served Jackson County as a Deputy Sheriff.

Coach Fyffe worked with the Cleveland Striders track team and he became a highly qualified track and field official. His list of accomplishments include officiating at several Olympic Trials, the 1984 Summer Olympics at Los Angeles, the 1996 Summer Olympics at Atlanta and at numerous National events. Bill was a member of the Ohio High School Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Bill married the former Martha Kuhner on June 19, 1966, at Waverly and their union was richly blessed with three lovely daughters, Heather of Painsville, Oh., Heidi (Mark) Fyffe Yocum also of Painsville, and Hyla (Jim) Fyffe Zinn of Springboro, Oh. Grandchildren, Gabrielle, Rylee and Sophia, as well as his many good friends, are left to mourn.

A celebration of Bill’s life will take place April 21, 2013, at The Depot in Wellston from 1 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Coach Fyffe Memorial Football Program, c/o the First National Bank of Wellston. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home of Wellston.
