Jean Harbarger

Jean Harbarger, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on March 25, 2013 at the Holzer Assisted Living facility in Jackson, Ohio. She received such good care there and was surrounded by people who loved her and with whom she had spent much of her life.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Jackson, Ohio with some forays across the country when her husband served in the Navy and then later, they lived in California for a few years. But they always returned to Jackson, their hometown. She loved teaching and was a lifelong educator with about 15 years in the classroom, first in Minford, Ohio and later at Jackson High School. She had a deep love for literature and reading, for dancing, for cooking, raising her boys and spending time with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace (Willis) and Harry Martin; her firstborn daughter, Gretchen; and her lifelong best friend and husband, Wayne B Harbarger, Jr.

She is survived by her boys, Wayne (Marcia) of Citrus Heights, CA, Scott (Luwana) of Orangevale, CA, Mark (Terry Marks) of Sacramento, CA and Joel (Wendy) of The Plains, OH; her grandchildren, Sara and Daniel Harbarger of Sacramento, CA, Nate Harbarger of Berkeley, CA and Molly Harbarger of Portland, OR; her step-grandchildren, Barbara (Steven) Ramirez of Citrus Hts., CA and Kate (Jay) Kirkpatrick of Reno, NV and Rachel Conley of Sacramento, CA; her step-great-grandchildren, Anna Mae Ramirez, William Ramirez, Jimmy Kirkpatrick, Aaron Kirkpatrick, Larry Chacon and Enrique Chacon.

Visiting hours will be at Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home at 28 Harding Ave., Jackson, OH on Friday, March 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. with the funeral on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Roach and Mrs. Janie Karl officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Christ United Methodist Church Family Life Center Building Fund or the Jackson Public Library.
