Constance J. “Connie” Martin

Constance J. “Connie” Martin, age 90, of Wellston, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. She was born May 25, 1922 in Glen Roy, Ohio, the daughter of the late Alfred Nichols and Mae Nagel Nichols.

Connie was a 1940 graduate of Coalton High School. She was a homemaker and an employee of the former Hercules Trouser Company in Wellston. Connie was a faithful, active member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Women’s Sunday School Class. She was a dedicated volunteer at My Brother’s Place in Wellston and she attended the Wellston Senior Citizens where she was given the honor of being chosen as the Ohillco Festival Senior Citizens Queen. Connie was also chosen as the Wellston Mother’s Club Mother of the Year.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph E. Martin of Wellston and John E. Martin of Wellston, along with six grandchildren, including Janice Martin Butcher of Lancaster; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Martin; son, James E. Martin, Jr. and infant daughter, Gretchen Ann Martin.

At Connie’s request, her body was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston with Pastor Brian Vinson officiating. Private burial will be held in the Ridgewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be given in Connie’s name to the Hope United Methodist Church, 219 East First Street, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
