Virla “Marie” McDaniel

Virla “Marie” McDaniel, age 91, of Jackson, joined her husband Earl and son Gary Robert in heaven on Friday, Nov. 1, 2012.

Born in West Liberty, KY on January 24, 1921, she married fellow Kentucky native, Earl McDaniel March 29, 1938 and moved to Fairborn, Ohio where she raised her family and was a successful business owner.

During WWII, she was eager to do her part and became one of the first “Rosie the Riveters.” In the mid 1960’s she relocated to Gallia County, and in April, 1969 moved to Jackson, Ohio where she enjoyed her expanding family and operated Marie’s Furniture on State Route 93 for over thirty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jewel (Williams) Roseberry; husband of 70 years Earl McDaniel; son, Gary R. McDaniel, Sr.; sisters, Shirley Eldrige, Martha Crowder, Mary LeMaster, Mazie Gues, Ann Stanley; and twin granddaughters, Carla and Darla McDaniel.

She is survived by daughter, Delena (Bob) Ritacco; son, William (Jean) McDaniel; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth McDaniel; 11 grandchildren, Tami (Randy) Queen, Twyla J. May, Lisa (Tim) Franklin, Tonya (Trent) Holt, Gary (Irene) McDaniel, Jr., Tracie (Robbie) Gipson, Larry (Kathy) McDaniel, Terese (Julio Francisco) Camacho, Angela (Mike) Skinner, Larua (Mack) Thompson, and Julie (Tom) Brown; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Calling hours will be held at the Lewis-Gillium Funeral Home, in Jackson, on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 5,at the Lewis-Gillium Funeral Home at 10 a.m. A family graveside service will be held at Byron Cemetery in Fairborn, Ohio at 1 p.m. where she will be laid to rest.
