Mary Coon Brown

Mary Coon Brown, 83, of Wellston, passed away on Friday evening, October 12, 2012, at her home following an extended illness. She was born at Byer, Ohio, on February 15, 1929, to the late Cybert and Letha Leach Coon. She was the last surviving child of Cybert and Letha, having been preceded in death by two brothers, John S. Coon and Charles Earl Coon, and six sisters, Chloe Campbell, Eloise Post, Ellen Davis, Frances Long, Nancy Dennis, and Linda Coon. Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Buell E. “Ham” Brown in 1980, and a granddaughter, Lindsey Renee Brown in 2007.

Mary was employed as an inspector at the former Hercules pants factory in Wellston, later called Kuppenheimer, for 44 years until it closed in 1996. She was then employed by KFC in Wellston for almost seven years. She was a member of the Wellston Church of the Nazarene and spent much of her time watching Bill and Gloria Gaither’s DVDs and their TV programs.

She is survived by two sons, Douglas E. Brown of Wellston and Charles David Brown of Jackson; a daughter, Sharon Beth Brown of Wellston; three grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Ryen Andrew Brown of Chillicothe, Jessica Renee Ervin of Wellston, and Hayley Nicole Vernon of Lancaster; six great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were set for Tuesday, October 16 at Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston from 2 until 8 p.m. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the chapel with Pastor Steve Mathews officiating. Mary’s final resting place will be the Byer Cemetery.
