Elma Christner Tucker

Elma Christner Tucker, age 86, of Columbus, Ohio, and formerly of Wellston, passed away on Sunday evening, June 10, 2012, at Columbus Alzheimer Care Center. She was born in Hillsboro, Ohio, on July 23, 1925, daughter of the late Carey Griffith and Elsie Pownall Griffith.

She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School. She was employed for over 20 years as a medical office manager for the late Dr. Hambrick of Wellston. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Wellston and an avid gardener in her spare time. She had resided with her daughter in Columbus since 1997.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Oren Lee Christner in 1963; her daughter, Pamela M. Christner in 1996; and her second husband, Herbert R. Tucker in 1996; and two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving is her daughter, Karen Christner, of Columbus; two brothers, Ervin and Joseph Griffith, of Hillsboro; two sisters, Elsie Purcell of Hillsboro, and Edna Willett of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and very close friend, Shirley Rogers, of Wellston.

Friends may call at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston on Thursday at 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. with CLP John Pelletier officiating. Elma’s final resting place will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.

Although Elma did not experience cancer herself but with her husband, Lee, and her daughter, Pam, Karen suggests that memorial contributions can be made in her mother’s name to the American Cancer Society.
