Jerry Gill

Jerry Gill, age 77, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012, at his residence. He was born November 19, 1934 in Wellston, Ohio, the son of the late Austin Gill and Loma Harber Gill.

Jerry was a former employee of Montgomery Trucking in Wellston for 17 years and then he was employed by the Wellston City School System, where he worked as a janitor at the Central School, the Coalton School and the Wellston High School for several years. Jerry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Fitzgerald Gill; four children, Jeri Long (Steve) of Wellston, Rick Gill of Wellston, Debbie Fisher (Dennis) of Jackson and Jim Gill (Wanda) of Wellston; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Long (Amy), Chanda Bishop (Charlie), Dennis Fisher (Misty), Seth Fisher, Matt Fisher, Tyler Gill and Trey Gill; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Gill of Ridgeville, S.C.; six sisters, Audrey Norris, Marlene Brenner and Linda Emmert (Rick), all of Wellston, Phyllis Hollingshead (Gerry) of Fairborn, Connie Robinson (Larry) of Columbus and Sandy Angles (David) of Washington Court House, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Gill, Sr., Dale Gill and Austin Gill, Jr.; one sister, Jean Gill Sprague and his infant great-grandson, Josiah Bishop.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Carmen Cline officiating. At Jerry’s request, his body will be cremated following the funeral service. Private burial will be held in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
