Sam Ed Baker, age 89, of Jackson, passed away Thursday morning, June 16, 2022, at his home. He was born February 21, 1933, in Millstone, Kentucky, son of the late Carl Ed Baker and Roda Hall Baker.
At the young age of 18, Sam started working at Chevrolet Spring and Bumper in Michigan, now known as General Motors, from where he retired with 37 years of employment. In years past, Sam attended the Church of Christ in Garden City, Michigan, and in recent years he enjoyed attending and being active with the Wellston Church of Christ. Sam enjoyed fishing, hunting, hot rod cars and especially enjoyed companionship with others. He was a member of the Victory Grange and always looked forward to making apple butter during the Apple Festival time.
Sam is survived by his children: Carl E. Baker (Robbin) of Canton, Michigan and daughter, Debbie Baker of Inkster, Michigan; stepchildren: Tom Stewart (Paula) of Jackson, Tim Stewart (Dee) of Jackson and Della Haydon (Dave) of Georgia; grandchildren: Jenny Camp (Mike), Becky Chapp (Jason), Kailey Baker, Daniel Stewart, Luke Stewart, Seth Stewart (Heather), Breanna Lewis (Caleb), Matthew Haydon (Kimberly) and Nichlas Haydon (Haley); great grandchildren: Brandon, Cody, Jordan, Noah and Liam; sister, Anna Fay Dillow (Dave) of Arizona; along with several other great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn Baker; second wife, Dorothy Stewart Baker; sister, Gaynel Fulton; and brother, Rayneil Baker.
Calling hours will be Monday, June 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. with Minister Erving Everson officiating. Additional services and burial in Michigan Memorial Park will be held in Garden City, Michigan.
