Lester Eugene McClurg, age 95, passed away Monday, May 30, 2022, as he sat on his front porch. Lester was born September 28, 1926, in Firebrick, Ohio to the late Henry and Ethel (Crabtree) McClurg.
Lester attended Oak Hill High School and left early to join the U.S. Navy, as many young men did. He met and married Blodwyn Evans and together they shared 62+ years together until the time of her passing in 2012. Lester retired after 40 years at New Idea of Coldwater, Ohio. He enjoyed working in his shoe shop, fishing and gardening. Recently, Lester was able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to see the Veterans’ Memorials, and this was such a special time for him.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Ed) Hale; sons: Harold (Sherry) McClurg and Steve Harvey; brother, Harold McClurg; sister, Mary Seidel; brother-in-law, Jack Evans; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brother, Henry McClurg, Jr.; sisters: Ruth Jarrett and Fern Evans; brother-in-law, Paul Jarrett; sister-in-law, Miriam McClurg; and sister-in-law, Judy McClurg.
Lester will rest in peace and goes on to be with his Heavenly Father and those who went before him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Judd officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Congregational Cemetery in Oak Hill, Ohio.
