Herbert Wayne Peoples, Jr., age 71, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born October 4, 1950, in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late Herbert Wayne Peoples, Sr. and Gladys Elizabeth Dickerson Peoples. Herb graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1968. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Vietnam era. Herb retired from General Mills in Wellston, where he was employed for 35 years. He served as a firefighter on the Wellston Fire Department for 25 years and was a former Captain of the department. Herb was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around on lawnmowers and different things, and spending time with all his family.
Herb is survived by his wife of 28 years, Glenna A. Lawson Peoples; children: Gary Barrett (Mary), Herbie Peoples III (Adrianna), Aaron Barrett (Sonia), Daniel Peoples (Tiffany) and Gregory Peoples (Cheryl); sisters, Donna Holbrook (John), Susan Schultz (Ray) and Alice Peoples; along with 20 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his sisters, Martha Corvin and Dottie Kinser.
Calling hours will be Thursday, March 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Friday, March 4, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Matt McKee officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
