Carl E. Reed, age 75, of Wellston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his home with family members around him to comfort and support him. He was born February 3, 1947, in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Woodrow W. Reed and Georgie F. Faught Reed. Carl was a 1965 graduate of Wellston High School and a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was employed at McNally-Pittsburg Manufacturing plant in Wellston for several years. After the plant’s closing, he was employed at Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing plant, from where he retired. Carl was a real car enthusiast. As a hobby, he enjoyed building street rods and refurbishing classic cars. He drove his 1930 Model A street rod to Tennessee on many occasions to attend car shows with his family. When he wasn’t in his garage tinkering with cars, he was outside taking care of the lawn and gardening.
Carl is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Linda Patton Reed; and daughters: Kriston (Morgan) Hughes and Karla (Jason) Leach. He was known as Papaw to grandchildren: Olivia Jones, Carly Jones, Griffin Leach, Kinslee Leach and Preslee Leach. He is also survived by sister, Gwen Tilley; and brother, Mike Reed; along with several nieces, nephews and a whole host of friends. Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his grandparents: Claude and Emmie Reed and Arthur and Stella Faught.
Calling hours will be Friday, March 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rick Kincaid officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
