Howard Edward Whaley, 73, of Wayne, West Virginia, formerly of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 7, 2022, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, West Virginia, with Pastor Todd Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery Annex at Wayne, West Virginia.
He was born July 22, 1948, at Jackson, Ohio, and was raised by his great-aunt and great-uncle, George and Lydia Bennett. He was a retired department manager for Foodland and Super Value and was a member of the Wayne United Methodist Church. Howard also participated in group meetings at the Huntington Veterans Center and was a former Boy Scout leader and youth sports coach. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.
A sister, Kay Canter, also preceded him in death, along with his in-laws, Bud and Janice Nelson, and a nephew, Michael Sowards.
Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Linda Kay Nelson Whaley; a son, Hamilton Whaley (Barsha) of Wayne, West Virginia; three sisters, Jane Roark and Betty Hughes of Springfield, OH, and Rose Ann Music (Kenneth) of Winchester, OH; three brothers, Bill Hughes and Charles Hughes of Springfield, OH and Tommy Hughes of Jackson, OH; three grandchildren, Josh Perry (Kiersten), Kaylin Perry, Lauryn Perry (Peyton); four great- grandchildren, Alexa and Levi Perry, Fisher and Briar Cade; a family friend, Aaron Cade; and a host of additional family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wayne United Methodist Church or to Wounded Warrior.
