Lois Hess, age 90, passed away Sunday, December 19th, 2021, at Holzer Jackson ER. She was born March 5th, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pennsylvania there.
When Lois came to Jackson, she was active in clubs, PTA and her church. She taught a teen Sunday School class for several years and sang in a women’s barbershop quartet. She was fascinated by nature and celestial things. She loved being around water and enjoyed many wonderful trips with her friend and sister-in-law, Treva, and with her family. Before losing much of her eyesight, she was an avid reader, a seamstress, and a knitter. Lois was always a great college football fan – especially the Buckeyes. She spent much time with her family and cats and will be deeply missed. She retired from her work at Job & Family Services at the age of 85.
Lois is survived by the following loving family members: daughters: Kyle Stiffler MD (Alex Zwil) of New Jersey, Kimberly (Jim) Plummer of Jackson, Ohio and Mary (Greg) Newcomb of Louisiana; grandchildren: Erika (John) Morris of Jackson, Ohio, John Baraniecki Zwiland Gwen Baraniecki Zwil of New Jersey and Rachel Newcomb and Emma Newcomb of Louisiana; and two great-grandchildren: Allison Morris and Jacob Morris both of Jackson, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Alleda Lake; two brothers: Charles and Richard Lake; her loving daughter, Kerry Sue; and husband, Fred Hess DVM; and son-in-law, John Baraniecki.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 23rd, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Christ United Church of Jackson with Pastor Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
