Nora M. (Coon) Shephard, age 79, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021 at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1942 in Oak Hill to the late Wilfred and Irene (Radabaugh) Coon.
Nora attended Oak Hill schools. After school she met Ronnie Shephard, Sr. and together they started their family and owned and operated the family logging business while raising their children. She enjoyed fishing and being around her family. Her son, Ronnie Jr. and daughter-in-law, Samantha cared for her the last four months of her life. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Karen (Steve) Adkins, Ronnie Jr. (Samantha) Shephard, Herman Shephard, Melinda (Jeff) Miller, all of Oak Hill; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Coon and Wilbur “Bill” (Carolyn) Coon; sister, Judy Toland; son-in-law, Kevin Johnson; sister-in-law, Patty Coon and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Ronnie Shephard Sr.; daughter, Bonnie Johnson; brother, Dave Coon and two infant siblings; grandson, Robbie Smith; and grandson-in-law, Joshua Risner.
Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 at the funeral home with Pastor Bryon Carmon officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
