By | December 3, 2019

Sylvia M. Patrick, age 92, a resident of Oak Hill, Ohio, departed this life for a new heavenly home on Dec. 1, 2019 at Bristol Village in Waverly, Ohio.  Sylvia was born on Oct. 26, 1927, to the late William and Mary (Keller) Carter.  She was united in marriage to Elmer Patrick on May 18, 1948.  Together, they shared 49 years of marriage prior to his death on Nov. 20, 1997.  Their union was blessed with five children, Douglas, Al, Sandra, Charles and Debra.

Sylvia grew up in the depression era, attending Jefferson Township School and she learned early in life the many responsibilities of hard work, and helping on the family unit.  She learned gardening and canning as a necessity in life and was a hard-working devoted wife, mother, grandmother and family caregiver.  She enjoyed ceramics, flowers, music, painting, reading, as well as sitting on her porch and enjoying the sounds of nature as she listened to the birds.  She was a loving person who enjoyed reunions as she watched her family grow and enjoyed sharing memories of her past.  Sylvia was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Marlin) Miller, of Fairborn, Ohio and Debra (Daniel) Noble, of Bainbridge, Ohio; and daughters-in-law, Goldie Patrick, of Groveport and Mila Patrick, of Columbus.  Her family albums adorned pictures of 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, Michelle (Brakken) Jerrick and Gus Davis, Penny (Matt) Brocious and Gavin and Peyton Kennard, Lori (Jeff) Rylie, Keaton, and Sylvia Brackett, Kyle (Gena) and Kelayna Patrick, Jason (Tracy) and Ryan Collins, Stephen (Shawna) and Gabriella Patrick, Travis Patrick, Crystal Patrick (James Nickels) and Kaden, Alyssa, Braylon, and Weston, Gregory (Jeanetta) Leonidas and Nora Noble, and Tara (Stephen) Emily, Elaina, and Samuel Sowards, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; sons, Douglas, Al, Charles; and daughter-in-law, Rose Patrick.  Sylvia was the sole survivor of her siblings; one brother, Clarence Carter; sisters, Madelyn Holback, Carrie Taylor, Bernice Sturgill, Dottie Trapp, and her identical twin sister, Goldie Evans, with whom she shared a special bond; and four siblings, who died in their youth, Edgar, Garnet, Robert and Donald Carter.

The family would like to thank home aides who provided special care while at home, as well as the Bristol Village Nursing staff and caring aides who assisted with Sylvia’s care.  Also, a thank you to those who would call or visit, Rosealie Brooks, Joyce Kern, Dave Patrick, and Mitzi McCain. Friends may call Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill.  Funeral services will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Rick Deckard officiating.  Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
