Ronald G. Dickens, age 78, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born April 30, 1941 in Kayford, West Virginia, to the late Charles Edward Dickens and Myrtle M. Frye Varian.
Ron was a former employee of Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing in Wellston for several years. He was a member of the Wellston Church of God, and enjoyed ministering and singing, along with his wife, Brenda, at local nursing facilities. Ron loved reading his Bible, working word-search puzzles and watching game shows and Gunsmoke on T.V. He was a very caring person who was a generous contributor to many Christian organizations.
Ron is survived by his daughters, Kathy Dotson (Jeff) of Athens and Teresa Stewart (Jack) of Wellston; step-daughter, Kim Schauer (Jeff) of Wellston; siblings, Pat Pettry (Willis), Donna Grounds, Margie King, Bill Dickens and Jim Dickens, all of West Virginia, and Becky Arnold (Bill), Charley Dickens and Phillip Dickens, all of Florida; along with 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins, including special cousin, David Rogers of Cleveland.
Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by the parents who raised him, Charles and Marie Dickens; his wife of 28 years, Brenda Bishop Dickens, who passed away on June 14, 2019; son, Buddy Dickens; and sisters, June Louise Dickens and Phyllis Neary.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Barry Benson officiating.
