Robert A. Cassill, 86, of Loudonville, Ohio, died Monday, August 15, 2016 at Colonial Manor Health Care Center in Loudonville.
Born January 4, 1930 in Wellston, he was the son of the late William B. and Louise (Arnett) Cassill. On August 28, 1960 he married Rosemary (Parry) Cassill and she survives.
Mr. Cassill graduated from Wellston High School in 1948. He served with the United States Navy 103rd Sea Bees from 1950 to 1954 in Guam. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rio Grande College and later earned a Master of Arts Degree at Morehead State University. A Loudonville resident since 1966, Bob retired from the Loudonville-Perrysville Schools in 1993 where he worked in Library Media Service. He previously taught at Utica High School and worked construction with his father while in high school and college as a licensed mason. After his retirement he worked at various places including the Loudonville radio station and Richardson’s Greenhouse.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church of Loudonville where he taught Sunday School, Loudonville American Legion, Free and Accepted Masons in McArthur, Order of Eastern Star in Ashland and a was a former member of the Lions Club where he was a past president. He was a member of the Golden Senior Group and various professional organizations. He went to McDonald’s Restaurant for coffee as part of the “Liars Club” and to Mellor’s Restaurant with other senior men.
Mr. Cassill enjoyed gardening, photography, fishing and roller skating. He sang with the Wellston Choral Group, Wellston Rotary Chorus and Wellston Methodist Church Choir.
In addition to his wife, Rosemary (Parry) Cassill, Bob is survived by three sons, Robert S. Cassill of Munroe Falls, William G. (Judy Pratt) Cassill of Kent and John (Jodie) Cassill of Marietta; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William G. Cassill.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Lindsey Funeral Home, 123 N. Market Street, Loudonville, Ohio 44842. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at United Methodist Church of Loudonville with Rev. Dr. Steve Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Loudonville Cemetery with full military graveside services conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Loudonville, 124 N. Market St., Loudonville, OH 44842.
