Betty J. Townsend Ghearing, age 93, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Summersville, W. Va. She was born December 30, 1922 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Glenn P. Matthews and Charlene Thompson Matthews.
Betty, a 1940 graduate of Wellston High School and a loving homemaker, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellston.
She is survived by her children, Charles T. Townsend of Wellston and Cindy Townsend of Summersville, W. Va., along with six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Ghearing; daughter, Sally Miller; brother, Peter Glenn Matthews; and sisters, Nancy Henry and Glenna Dixon.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
