Marshall “Sam” G. Hill, Jr., 81, of Jackson, Ohio, left his earthly home for his heavenly one on Wednesday morning, December 23, 2015, at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Jackson, Ohio, on September 29, 1934, to the late Marshall and Grace Ellen Morris Hill. He loved singing and playing music, namely gospel and bluegrass, as well as fishing and spending time with family and friends. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was possessed of a jovial and mischievous nature, that made him the most excellent of story tellers, leaving all who would listen captivated. He was caring, steadfast, generous, and the kindest of souls. His love and influence will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Nellie Ruth Hill, Joseph Isaac Hill, Eldon Eugene Hill, Deloris Meriel (Hill) Terry, and Avis Irene (Hill) Weiske; as well as many other cherished family members and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rebecca Ann Austin Hill; daughters, LaVonda (Reid) Massey, Marsha Chesser, and Angelia (Mark) Wile; grandchildren, Joshua and Raymond Chesser, Krystal (Clayton) Newman, and Cailin and Joseph Wile; great-grandchildren, Shaylee, Lucas, and Austin Chesser, Jaden Robson, Zander Conley, Layton Chesser, and Haley and Evan Newman; siblings, Grace Anne Hill of Indiana, LaVern Belle (Hill) Boyer, Janet Lou (Hill) Wyatt, Doris Ellen (Hill) McManis of Indiana, Russell Michael “Mike” (Eva) Hill, Patrick “Pat” (Brenda) Hill, and Arthur “Art” Hill; and numerous cousins, friends, and extended family including all of his “adopted” grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel in Wellston on Sunday from 2 until 8 p.m. Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Jenkins Chapel with Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery.
