Othella Violet Hughes, age 89, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 12, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 2, 1925 in Oak Hill, Ohio, to the late Elza Yates and Chloie Etta Dulaney Shumate. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, mainly fishing and camping as well as playing cards, working crossword puzzles, square dancing and playing bingo. There was nothing more important than spending time with her family, especially her dog “Duke” and cat “Lightning.”
She is survived by children: David William Hughes, John Elza Hughes (Bid Hughes), Mary Etta Hughes and Rose Ann (Keith Sr.) Huston; special niece who she thought of as a daughter, Debbie (Clyde) Doles; brother, Delbert Yates; grandchildren: Misty Miller, David Dean Thompson, Erika Ann (Art) Morris, Christina Sue (Jefferson Jr.) White, Keith Huston Jr., Tina Marie Dulaney and Jenny Ann Huston; 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John William Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Hughes officiating and burial to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the funeral home.
