Virgil Goff, age 78, of Ray, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2014, from the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born November 1, 1935 in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Erwin and Hattie Thacker Goff. Virgil retired from the Jackson City Schools, where he was employed as a school bus driver for 30 years. He was a member of the Puritan Free Will Baptist Church and was an ordained minister. Virgil loved to hunt and fish, but he would rather be in church.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn “Katie” Fout Goff; son, Virgil Goff, Jr. (Gayle) of Sidney, Ohio, daughters, Brenda Fairchild and Michelle Brandenburg, both of Troy, Ohio; step-sons, John Daniels (Jackie) of Ray and Kenny Daniels (Karalee) of Frankfort, Ohio; brothers, Cephis “Bo” Goff of Jackson and Gene Goff of Florida; sisters, Shirlene Goff of Jackson and Gladys McPeak of Florida, as well as nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by son, Ricky Goff; daughters, Betty Preston, Linda McClellan and Kathy Phillips, and brother, Reaford Goff.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Puritan Free Will Baptist Church, St. Rt. 160, in Hamden. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Puritan Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Jamie Fortner officiating. Burial will be in the Byer Cemetery.
