Jack W. Downard, age 87, of Wellston, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio. He was born February 24, 1927 in Wellston, Ohio, to the late Roy A. Downard and Daisy Roach Downard.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was a former employee of Downard Trucking, a mechanic for Willis-Sellers, and then later retired from McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing in Wellston.
Jack is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane K. Starcher Downard; son, Jack Michael Downard (Kate Lee) of West Harrison, Indiana; daughter, Lisa Kay Downard (Mark Sherwood) of Wellston; two grandchildren, Brandi Wejman (John) of Lewis Center and Corey McLain of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Julianna Wejman; two sisters, Jane Partee of McArthur and Marjorie Frazee of Cincinnati; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Brady Copas of Wellston, Cathi Blamer (Dane) of Washington Court House, and Margaret Downard of Florida, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Lou Gene, Bill, Roy Jr. and Ray Downard, and sisters, Monna Downard, Mary Downard, Betty Jones, Marian DeWitte, Virginia Williams and Patsy Raines.
In keeping with Jacks’ wishes, there will be no public calling hours. Graveside funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston with Rev. Bob Davis officiating. For those who wish, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be given in Jack’s name to a favorite charity of one’s choice.
