Evelyn Watts, age 87, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at her home. She was born December 8, 1926 to the late Cecil and Nanna (McCorkle) Jones. She was married to Richard Watts for 50 years.
Evelyn attended Rio Grande College and graduated in 1965 with a degree in Education. She taught school for 36 years in the Jackson City School District. Evelyn extended her teaching outside of the normal classroom by teaching outdoor education for many years working with local students and inner-city children.
Evelyn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gama, and Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her three daughters, Krystal Wilson of Jackson, Ohio, Joreen McMillen of Jackson, Ohio and Valeria (Rick) Hersman of Parkersburg, West Virginia; granddaughter, Bronwyn (Mark) Ginty of Gahanna, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Spencer and Maeve Ginty of Gahanna, Ohio.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her husband, Richard Watts; grandson, Broderick Wilson; sister, Marguerite (Peg) Witt; and three brothers, Jack Jones, Charles Jones, and Wendell Jones.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. A service will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
