Edith Spurlock, age 88, of Oak Hill, Ohio went home to be with the Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 19, 2013. She was born in Floyd Co., KY February 26, 1925 to the late Basil and Gracie (Blanton) Hamilton. She was one of 14 children.
Edith is survived by three sons, Jack T. (Carol), Joe (Susan) and Bob L. (Jannie) Spurlock; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a devoted special friend, Myrtle Daughtery. Along with her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband she adored, Oliver (Dad) Spurlock; a son, Franklin (Beriah) Spurlock; six sisters and seven brothers.
Edith was a member of Old Emory Baptist Church and attended Liberty Baptist Church in later years. Edith was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was married to Oliver on March 17, 1945. She retired from the Oak Hill School System as a bus driver in 1985. She enjoyed traveling with Oliver, family, friends and loved ones. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing, quilting and fishing. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. She loved life, and was compassionate about helping and giving to others, whatever the need.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Lewis-Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Elza Green and Rev. Carson Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the funeral home.
