Jean Matteson, age 83, of Wellston, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born May 9, 1929 in Garden City, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ezra Darnell and Julia Williams Darnell.
Jean was a 1946 graduate of Harrisonville High School. She was a former dietary manager at Edgewood Manor in Wellston for 30 years and was a member of the Wellston Church of the Nazarene.
Jean is survived by five daughters, Clara (Jack) Stevison of Wellston, Claudia (Forrest) Wood of Wellston, Carla (Terry) Lanane of Wellston, Connie (John) McGee of McArthur and Carrie Bishop of Amite, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren, Chad Stevison, Dana (Jake) Eberts, Shanan (George) Denny, Ronald (Stephanie) Fisher, Kevin (Maria) Lanane, Stacey Karr, Brandi (Chad) Moore, Emily Partee, Nathan Kimble, Brett Kimble and Kyle Kimble; brothers, Jim Darnell of Connecticut and Willard (Flo) Darnell of Texas; sisters, Geneva (Denny) Sorrell of Wellston and Barbara (Yonk) Cantrell of Wellston, as well as 13 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Max Matteson; infant twin brothers, Earl and Pearl, and her sister, Carrie Gettles.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Hamden Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
