Jack H. Nigh, age 84, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012, at the Jenkins Memorial Nursing Facility in Wellston. He was born August 30, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Herbert Nigh and Helen McFarland Nigh.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War era. He retired from Banquet Foods, where he worked as a supervisor. Jack was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellston and was also a member of the Wellston Senior Citizens, who honored him a couple of years ago by naming him the Wellston Coal Festival Senior Citizen King. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and he loved cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.
Jack is survived by his two daughters, Jackie (Jeff) Merrill of Wellston and Julie (Tom) Haynes of Wellston; four grandchildren, Bret Merrill, Brodie Merrill, Hilary Miller and Hayley Bradley; four great-grandchildren, Krysta, Shi, Keegan and Quincy; two sisters, Marylou Fuller and Jean Spriggs, as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn King Nigh in 2006.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wellston with John Pelletier, CLP and Pastor Rob Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
