Sandra Evans

Sandra L. Evans, age 74, of Wellston, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born March 25, 1947, in Wellston, Ohio, daughter of the late Kermit P. Evans and Ella Marie Hamilton Evans. Sandra graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1965 and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Rio Grande College in 1970. Sandra started her teaching career at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Wellston and continued her career with the Wellston City Schools, where she taught for 33 years. Following retirement, she continued teaching as a substitute teacher at Bundy Elementary. While at Wellston High School, Sandra served as the gymnastics coach, varsity cheerleading coach, varsity and reserve volleyball coach and assistant softball coach. Sandra always looked forward to and enjoyed the gatherings with her high school and college classmates, co-workers and her many friends. She was a member of Alpha Mu Beta Sorority, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Wellston Teacher’s Association and was also a former Girl Scout troop leader. To know Sandra was to love Sandra. Her spunky and fun-loving personality was enjoyed by all those around her. Her great sense of humor kept everyone laughing and you never knew what she was going to say or do next. Sandra was an educator, mentor, coach, friend and “Aunt Sandra” to many, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by brothers: Kermit Evans (Linda) and James Evans; brother-in-law, Bill Kimbel; sister-in-law, Sandy Evans; aunt and uncle, Lorraine and Bill Macroglou; aunt, Elizabeth Yerian; nieces and nephews: Kendra Shotts (David), Kim Ballinger (Rusty), Steve Evans (Lisa), Jay Evans, Chris Evans (Holley), Tere Murphy (John), Mike Evans (Hanan) and Jenny Dixon (Ron); along with several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and numerous friends including special friends: Cassie Gulmi and Nancy Holzapfel Riley; and honorary niece, Lori Roberts Lintala. Besides her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Marie Kimbel; and brothers: Kenneth Bruce, Dean Bruce and Jack Bruce.

In keeping with Sandra’s request, her body was cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Pastor Tim Jones officiating.
