By | February 9, 2015

Fredrick Lynn “Fred” Peters, age 66, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2015, surrounded with love. He was born July 6, 1948 in Athens County, Ohio to the late Harry and Shirley Harder Peters. He was an active member of the Jackson First Church of the Nazarene, a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of Orphans Friend Lodge #275 F. & A.M. of Wilkesville.

Fred was a very humble man who loved and adored his family, especially his 15 grandchildren. He was a 1966 graduate of Wilton High School in Wilkesville, Ohio; attended Rio Grande University and went on to serve four years in the United States Navy, where he learned to cut hair.

Upon completion of service to his country, he obtained his barbers license from the Andrews Barber College in Columbus, Ohio. After several years of working in Columbus and Lancaster, nearly 35 years ago, Fred took a chance and started his shop in Jackson, Ohio, which is now The Village Hair Cutters. He took pride in his work and believed everyone should be greeted with a smile and treated like family. Through time he slowly impacted generation after generation of families and was sure to always keep tabs on the kids as they grew to become men, the men who are now bringing their children in today.

Fred is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cathy Harris Peters; sons: Ryan (Alli) Peters, Shane (Toria) Brown and Jason (Shelley) Brown; daughters: Lindsey (Jon) Blackburn, Shelly (Ronnie) Sheets and Lisa (John) Browning; sisters: Beverly Mynster, Emilie (Gary) Wells and Connie (John) Palmer; brother-in-law Bill (Mary Ann) Harris; grandchildren: Chelsey Sheets, Kaetlyn Sheets, Haydn Brown, Cody Brown, Joshua Sheets, Norah Brown, Justin Sheets, Owen Brown, Thatcher Brown, Lukas Brown, Maggie Blackburn, Miles Blackburn, Max Blackburn, Brady Brown and Phoebe Brown.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Shawn (Veronica) Mynster, Matthew (Rebekah) Mynster, Gary (Amy) Wells, Greg (Stacey) Wells, Teresa (Mike) Boysel, Jay Palmer, Andy (Sarah) Harris and John (Brandy) Harris and also lovingly opened his home to Richie Dowler as well as a long list of others. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Earl Mynster.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Pastors Mike Parcel and Wayne Searls officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery with military graveside services.
