Charles Edward Barnhart

Charles Edward Barnhart, age 88, of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born November 29, 1926 in Akron, Ohio to the late Clarence and Mary Kate (Martin) Barnhart.

He is survived by his wife, Rowena (Crabtree) Barnhart. In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters: Paulette (Steve) Richards of Thurman, Ohio, Sherry (Stan) Lewis of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Debbie (Bob) Richards of Jackson, Ohio; grandchildren: Andrea (Jeff) Hale of Thurman, Ohio, Stephen (Tara) Richards of Thurman, Ohio, Stephanie (Brad) Shaffner of Dublin, Ohio, Benjie (Tammy) Lewis of Westerville, Ohio, Jamie (Margo) Lewis of Palo Alto, California, Jessica Duncan of Jackson, Ohio, and Julie (Chad) Grow of Logan, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Cody and Griffin Hale, Grant and Jordan Pritchard, Austin Shaffner, Jonah, Jayden, and Dawson Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Payton Taylor, Madison and Elle Richards, Kennedy and Kylie Duncan and Gracen Grow; and great-great-grandson, Kameron Duncan.

He is also survived by sisters, Ruthie Viers, Beulah Welch, and Baeotta Barnhart; brothers, Jack and Ronnie Barnhart; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Fisher; brothers, William, Elmer, Arnold, and infant brother Donald Barnhart.

Charles began working at age 15, and became manager of Henry Brothers Orchard for many years. After Henrys went out of the orchard business, he and his wife Rowena, built and managed Barnharts Farm Market. After selling the market he and Rowena managed the Jackson Monument Company, where they retired. Charles took pride in his work ethic and always stayed busy.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 6, at 1 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill, Ohio with Rev. Stan Howard and Rev. Brian Mallott officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Visitation will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, September 5, from 3 to 7 p.m.
