Samuel “Sam” Bowman

Samuel “Sam” S. Bowman, age 92, of Jackson, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022, at Holzer ER in Jackson. He was born in Artestia, New Mexico on August 25th, 1929, to the late Sterling and Sybil (Campbell) Bowman.

He was a 1947 graduate of Artesia High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a union electrician and retired from the Uranium Enrichment Plant in Piketon, Ohio.

Sam married Geraldine Sue Davis on August 25th, 1980, who survives. He is also survived by daughter, Marsha (Bowman) Mutter; son, Rick (Kara) Bowman; daughter, Michele (Bowman) Jayjohn all of Jackson, Ohio; step-son, Anthony (Robin) Henderson of St. Joseph, Louisiana; son-in-law, Curtiss Jayjohn of Wellston, Ohio; grandchildren: Roshel Bowman of Wellston, Ohio, Chad Bowman (Whitley Arthur) of Melboure, Florida, Erick (Courtney) Jayjohn of Springfield, Ohio, Casey Bowman, Connor (Becca) Bowman, Barrett Jayjohn, and Katie Jo (Tommy) Gray all of Jackson, Ohio; great-grandchildren: Kylan and Keylei Bowman, Aiden, Christian, Carter, and little baby girl on the way Bowman, Natalie Geiger, Colton and Adalynn Bowman, Lennon Padgett; and Warren Jayjohn; sisters: Carol Groves and Bobbi Davis; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, James Mutter; granddaughter, Jordan Bowman; two brothers: Richard and Steve Bowman; and two sisters: Dorothy Lee Duran and Sandra Hill.

Sam was a past member of the Elks, the Moose Lodge, Wagon Wheelers and a current member of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, golf, and tending to his roses until his health declined.

The family would like to thank all the home caregivers for their love and hard work over the years.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 19th, 2022, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20th, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Zink officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
