Sidney “Sid” Grant

Sidney Wilfred “Sid” Grant, age 72, of Wellston, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born August 23, 1949, in Gallipolis, Ohio, son of the late Wilfred F. “Bundy” Grant and Hazel Faye Merrill Grant. Sid was a 1967 graduate of Wellston High School, and later attended Manpower Training Center in Jackson for drafting. In past years, Sid was a draftsman at both McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing in Wellston and Goodyear Atomic Plant in Piketon, as well as an IT Specialist at Meade Corporation in Chillicothe and Huntington Bank in Columbus, from where he retired. Following 23 years of dedicated service, Sid also retired as a Sergeant First Class from the Army National Guard, where he was a Combat Medic with the 237th Forward Support Battalion. He loved his country and was a very proud veteran. Sid was a member of the Jackson County Amateur Radio Club and he really enjoyed communicating with other “hams” under the call sign N8LOQ. He also enjoyed participating as a competitive match shooter at Camp Perry in northern Ohio, studying and learning about military history, tinkering with computers and being the IT guy for the family. Sid loved his family and enjoyed the time spent with them.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail Elainie Henry Grant; son, Gabriel B. Grant of Wellston; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and John Lindauer of Wellston; grandchildren: Nathan Grant, Bryer Lindauer, Laken Ryster, Logan Taylor and Josie Lindauer; great-granddaughters: Nona and Isla Ryster; sister, Jean Haybron of Union Furnace; as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends: Dave and Sandy Bloom and Roger Bell. Besides his parents, Sid was preceded in death by an infant brother, Cary Grant; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Millard and Nancy Henry.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 19, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services, with military honors, will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at a later date in Ridgewood Cemetery.
