Martha L. “Marty” Helmick, age 68, of Ray, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was born June 15, 1953, in Gallipolis, Ohio, daughter of the late Rev. George W. Sexton and Nellie L. Thomas Sexton. Martha was an avid hunter, as well as a three-time national powerlifting champion and she earned a brown belt in karate.
She is survived by her children: Jimmy Sparks (Heidi) of Ray and Dona Sparks of Chillicothe; grandchildren: Jay Sparks (Justin), Megan Bartoe (Josh), Ryan Clemons, Hunter Clemons, Timothy Hamblin (Amanda), Job Fields and Mariah McNichols; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Vickers (Bob) of Wellston.
