Ruth Evelyn Ruth went to her Lord on Thursday, November 25th, 2021, while resting quietly at home. She was born March 3rd, 1927, the youngest daughter of the late James and Sarah (Herbert) Gilliland.

Ruth grew up in Oak Hill, Ohio and married her high school sweetheart, Kenny Ruth, who preceded her to the house of their Lord after being a loving husband for 53 years. She and Kenny made their home and raised their family in Jackson, Ohio. 

She graduated from Oak Hill High School, where her early employment included secretary to the school superintendent. She utilized her bookkeeping skills through a variety of positions, including the Pontiac garage, where Kenny also worked as service manager and mechanic. She retired as payroll clerk for Campbell’s Mushroom Farm.

Ruth was actively involved in United Commercial Travelers (UCT), receiving the 2021 Ohio Fraternalist of the Year. She was also recognized for serving 27 years as the secretary/treasurer for the Jackson Fraternal Council #380. She was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and in various church administrative positions. Even her hobbies demonstrated her desire to serve as she created many crafts, sewing items and crocheting projects and donated them to various charities.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Edward (Susan) Ruth of Idaho; daughter, Judy (Richard) Hamilton of Oak Hill, Ohio; and the joys of her life, her grandson, James Hamilton of Oak Hill, Ohio; granddaughter, Renea (Jason) Irick of Fairborn, Ohio; and great-grandson, Rowan Irick. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters: Emily (John) Morgan of Florida and Margery (James) Metzler of Oak Hill, Ohio; and her brother, Thomas Oscar (Lorraine) Gilliland of Jackson, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 125 Locust Street, Jackson, OH 45640. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson.
