Jeffrey Grimes

By | November 8, 2021

Jeffrey Layne Grimes, 63, of Jackson, passed away Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Adena Regional Medical Center of Chillicothe. He was born November 4, 1958, in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Jack and Maxine Brunton Grimes.

He was a 1977 graduate of the Jackson High School and was a member of Pastor Barry Benson’s Church of God in Wellston. He was a “Professional Tourist,” better known as a long-haul truck driver, having worked for Daniels Trucking, and was known by his handle as “Scoobie Doo.” His true passion was dirt track racing. He was a mechanic for a couple race teams over the years, working mainly with Bobby Oney and Seth Daniels – however, he did have his own car on the track at times.

He is survived by his brother, Greg (Stephanie) Grimes; sister, Tammy (Kenny) Adams; sister-in-law, Rosie Danver; best friend and home health aide: Karen Schrock; as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Roma Straten Grimes; brother, Dale “Jug” Danver; and sister, Mariolive Landon.

He wanted no services for friends to mourn – rather, he wanted you to remember him with a smile. Visit a dirt track and, when the dirt is flying, think of how much joy it brought him. He always said if you don’t get dirty, it’s not racing! Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home and Southern Ohio Cremation Services of Jackson.
