Kermit Sowards

Kermit Lee Sowards, age 78, of Jackson, Ohio passed away at Adena Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Aug. 28. Kermit was born Aug. 6, 1943, in Logan, West Virginia to the late William “Hosscat” Sowards and Annabelle (Webb) Sowards.

He is survived by his three daughters: Lisa (Eden) Taylor, Regina (Steve) Lundy, and Angela (Markus) Kearns; six grandchildren: Kristan (Jeremy) Moore, Eden Taylor, Brittney (James) Martin, Ashley (Jerrod) Ewing, Dedrick (Danielle) Kearns, and Matthew Kearns. Also surviving are seven great- grandchildren; two siblings: Sharron (Tom) Watson and Patty Anaya; his former wife and the mother of his children, Mary Swann; as well as two aunts, one niece, and three nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Dottie Baker, and his nephew, Chris Labadie. 

Kermit was a Vietnam Army Veteran. He attended Glenroy Freewill Baptist Church when physically able. He enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to gospel music, fishing, and watching westerns, but most of all, he loved his family and the Lord. 

Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 2 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at the funeral home with Pastor David Monroe. Burial will follow in Pattonsville Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com
