James Darrell Shifflet

James Darrell Shifflet passed away on Jan. 24, 2021.  He was born Aug. 26, 1942 in Wilkesville, Ohio.

James was a Sprinkler Fitter for Capitol Fire Protection and was a member of the National Sprinkler Fitters Union 669.  He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and volunteered for the Sons and Daughters of the American Legion Auxiliary.  He loved attending and watching NASCAR races as well as spending time with family and friends.  He was always helping others and was deeply loved.

He is survived by his daughter, LuAnne Dunbar (Michael); son, Eric Shifflet (Amy); daughter, Annette Ford; son, Charles McMurray (Shelley); son, Michael McMurray (Renee); sister, Barbara Barclay; sister, Julia Simmonds (Billy); brother-in-law, Danny Sayre (Debbie); grandchildren, Kylie Dunbar, Cameron Shifflet, Canyon Shifflet, Cierra Shifflet, Matthew Haner (Elizabeth), Rodney Burgess, Trevor Strawser and Taryn Strawser; great-grandchildren, Lacey, William, Riley, and Meredith; nieces and nephews, Cami Frye (Eddie), Penny Welch (Jeff), Bridget Fee (Jamie); as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Shifflet; father, Bill Shifflet; mother, Bridget Shifflet; brothers, George Shifflet, William Shifflet, and Robert Shifflet; sisters, Neva Metz and Hilda Thompson; and grandsons, Michael Dunbar, Jr. and Kyle Couture.

James has requested no funeral or viewing.  A graveside service will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 and the current inclement weather.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children at donorrelations@shrinenet.org or your local food bank.

Arrangements are by the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson.
