Virginia L. “Jenny” Lucas

Virginia L. “Jenny” Lucas, age 88, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at her home.  She was born Jan. 25, 1932 in Wellston, Ohio to the late George Darling, Sr. and Stella Scurlock Darling. 

Jenny was a 1950 graduate of Wellston High School.  She was a former receptionist for Jackson Mental Health, as well as being a former employee of Perdue’s Five & Dime and Hercules Trouser Company.  Jenny spent many years helping raise her two grandsons following the death of her daughter, Randi, at a young age.  In her spare time, she always enjoyed visiting and talking with her family and friends, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and playing Bingo.  In her later years, Jenny enjoyed taking care of her great-granddaughter, Jayla. 

She is survived by her two grandsons, Luke Downard (Angie) of Jackson and Travis Downard (Natalia) of Wellston; great-granddaughter, Jayla Downard; nieces and nephews, Andrea “Andie” Ervin, Debbie Darling, David Darling, Melissa Applegate, Linda Arocha and Thomas “Butch” Applegate; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.  

Besides her parents, Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Lucas in 1994; daughter, Randi Lucas Downard in 1987; and siblings, Eugene “Tootle” Darling, George Darling, Jr., Helen Melvin, Shirley Applegate and Maxine Angles. 

In keeping with Jenny’s wishes, her body was cremated.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Pastor John Pelletier officiating.  Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Ridgewood Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
