Laura Mae Hollberg

Laura Mae Hollberg, age 97, of Wellston, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  She was born Nov. 4, 1922 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Howard W. Ankrom, Sr. and Helen Matthews Ankrom. 

Laura Mae was a 1940 graduate of Wellston High School.  She was a former employee of H&R Collins in Wellston, as well as the clerk’s office for the City of Wellston.  All those around her enjoyed Laura Mae’s funny, ornery and feisty personality.  She always had a joke to tell or a story to share. 

Laura Mae, along with her husband Floyd, enjoyed traveling and going on bus tours.  For over 35 years, she loved gathering with her friends three nights a week at Pizza Pub for cold drinks and lots of laughter.  Laura Mae was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, the Wellston Senior Citizens, the Wellston Historical Association and the Southern Hills Arts Council. 

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jo and George Jacubec of Wellston; grandchildren, Michael Jacubec, Corey Rodriguez (Charles) and Tina Stroud (Ryon); great-grandchildren; Cole, Paul, Gabriel and Roman; sister-in-law, Gladys Ankrom of Wellston; as well as other relatives and a host of friends. 

Besides her parents, Laura Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd F. Hollberg in 2013; brothers, Howard W. Ankrom, Jr. and Joe Ankrom; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Steve Claar. 

Calling hours will be Saturday, July 11, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 12 p.m. with Pastor John Pelletier officiating.  Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Laura Mae’s name be given to Hope United Methodist Church, 219 East First Street, Wellston, Ohio 45692 or Jackson County Dog Pound, 275 Portsmouth Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
