Paul D. Ward

Paul D. Ward, age 71, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 18th, 2018 at his home. He was born December 30th, 1946 in Welch, West Virginia to the late Cassie (Virginia) Ward of Gilbert, West Virginia.

Paul graduated from Marshall University with his bachelor’s degree. He was an Air Force Veteran from 1967-1971 serving in Turkey. He taught at and retired from Gilbert High School in Gilbert, West Virginia. He also coached football and varsity basketball.

He was an associate pastor at Old Philadelphia Church in Minford, Ohio. He pastored 18 years at God’s Lighthouse in Logan, West Virginia. He was part of a family gospel group called The Singing Disciples in which he wrote and recorded music including the song, “Bought with a Price”.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Eula Ward; son, Jamie Ward of Oak Hill, Ohio; step-sons: Jonah (Debbie) Staten of Amanda, Ohio, Tony Staten (Fiance, Cindy) of Columbus, Ohio, Ronnie (Terri) Staten of Spotsylvania, Virginia; step-daughter, Jequeta (Merdie) Alley of Matewan, West Virginia; brother, Michael (Tonia) Ward of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Linda Ward of Gilbert, West Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; special unborn great-grandson, Kyson Cooper due in November; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Ward of Gilbert, West Virginia.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 21st, 2018 from 6-10PM at Liberty Christian Center, 97 Center Street, Jackson, OH 45640. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 at 1PM at the church with Pastors Burley Muncy and Maurice Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Newsome’s Rest.
